Black Creek Märzen

Black Creek Märzen

May’s BrewBox just arrived, so last night I had clear more beer from the fridge. My life is the worst!

This was the surprisingly sweet and oddly timed Märzen beer from Black Creek Historic Brewery. It’s actually delicious, but like a very smooth Brown Ale with lots of caramel (which BJCP tells me is inappropriate).

Mmmmmm, tasty mistakes!

  1. It’s funny, the BJCP does say caramel is not appropriate, however the Cicerone study materials that I have have caramel featuring as a descriptor for both the Marzen and Vienna styles. Also, I usually pick out caramel in most examples of these beers….

  2. Is that right? I’ve never noticed caramel before in a Märzen, which is why I consulted BJCP after taking my first sip.

Either way, I’m not complaining about a beer I really enjoyed.
